STATE OF NEW YORK
EXECUTIVE CHAMBER
Proclamation
Whereas, the people of the Empire State recognize events that celebrate our various communities and, as such, we join to commemorate the 20th Annual Bronx Dominican Parade, La Gran Parada Dominicana de el Bronx, a proud occasion for our fellow citizens of Dominican ancestry whose presence adds to the vibrant multicultural life of New York State; and
Whereas, throughout its history, New York State has welcomed people from around the world of every national and ethnic background, and we appreciate the contributions made by a flourishing Dominican community whose members share the values and traditions of their homeland, and uphold the principles of freedom and democracy that are fundamental to life in America; and
Whereas, this year, the Grand Concourse will again set the stage for one of its most festive processions, as citizens of Dominican heritage gather in the Bronx to highlight their many accomplishments, culture and pride, and in doing so, the participants help increase awareness of and appreciation for our statewide Dominican communities and their contributions to the social, cultural and economic development of our state and nation; and
Whereas, the directors and committee members of La Gran Parada Dominicana de el Bronx work year-round to prepare for this event and they are to be commended for their dedicated efforts that help make this annual celebration a success, as such commitment to our statewide Dominican families and communities is admirable; and
Whereas, La Gran Parada Dominicana de el Bronx pays tribute to the capital city of Santo Domingo and to its Patriarch and Liberator, Juan Pablo Duarte, and it is a testament to the Dominican people of this state who are certain to remain a visible and viable presence among our many Hispanic communities; and
Whereas, New Yorkers extend recognition and appreciation for the history, customs and goodwill of the Dominican community in the Bronx as it continues this annual tradition and it is fitting that people of all backgrounds join with our Dominican friends and neighbors in this celebration of pride in heritage;
Now, Therefore, I, David A. Paterson, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby proclaim July 26, 2009 as
